World War of a Different Kind
As I sit in the safety of my home, I see the coronavirus pandemic as a war. A war against humanity. We the people of our communities, various nations, and frankly the whole world are all simultaneously battling the same enemy. This is a world war of a different kind.
Maybe for the first time in human history humanity across the globe are brought together in one accord fighting towards the same victory. “For the Lord your God goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory” (Deuteronomy 20:4, NIV).
Prior to the invasion of the coronavirus, people today stood divided. Divided socially, culturally, economically, politically, and religiously. These angsts from these various divisions is non-existent at the moment. Praise God. “For He Himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility” (Ephesians 2:14).
I do not know why the world is fighting this horrific virus. However, what I do know is that the more we focus on a cure and do what is called of us in and through this battle we the people of this world are united as one kind…humankind.
By fulfilling the commands of the Center for Disease Control in hunkering down in our trenches across the globe we are essentially building a blockade that is a fortified protection around ourselves, our loved ones, and everyone else. Together we are alleviating serious casualties and blocking the advances of this sworn enemy.
As we do our part we can live in fear during these uncertain times or we can rest in hope and peace by keeping our eyes on our heavenly Father. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).
What I see as a sign of hope is all humankind united in prayer. Praying in their own way for the very same thing – claiming victory and the eradication of this virus – this enemy of all human race.
God is listening.
Jeremiah 29:12-13, "Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13)
