Loving His Church well

Main Truth: “Come and be his “living stones” who are continually being assembled into a sanctuary for God. For now you serve as holy priests, offering up spiritual sacrifices that he readily accepts through Jesus Christ.” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:5‬ ‭TPT‬‬

As The Church, His Church, we must radically love our brothers and sisters in Christ. We must welcome one another as we come into the family, warts and all, and bear with each other as we grow. Those who are more mature should cooperate in the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of newer believers until they become equipped to do the work God has predestined for them to do. If we can do that, the world will see Jesus and believe.

Nothing breaks my heart more than believers who are constantly church shopping, always complaining and never having anything positive to say about His Church. How it must grieve the Spirit of God when we gossip, cheat and malign one another. How contagious would it be to the world to witness a group of people who loved each other selflessly, humbly, and passionately? The world is crying out for that very experience and trying unsuccessfully to create that utopia. Because we have received the sacrificial love of the Father through Christ, we are the ones who possess the power to love like this.

I had the incredible privilege of teaching through the book of John to a women’s group and that journey forever changed my love for His Church. If you don’t yet have a love for the Church, then I would ask you to consider praying and asking God to give you His love for His Church. If there is someone in your Church body right now that drives you crazy, I beg of you to bear it well (Ephesians 4:2). If there is someone in your Church who has hurt you, I implore you to forgive (Colossians 3:12-14) . If there is a confidence that has been entrusted to you, I beg of you to keep it (Hebrews 6:16). If you get wind of tantalizing sin, I challenge you to tell no one but instead pray for them (Ephesians 4:2) and, if possible, gently and humbly guide them back to the right path (Galatians 6:1-2). If you are in conflict right now with someone in the Church remember that your battle is not with them but with the powers and principalities of this dark world (Ephesians 6:12).

Fight the good fight.

You see, Christ is our cornerstone and we are the living stones of the Church. Those of us who are more mature must line up plumb with the Cornerstone. Those who come after us, will look to you and I and determine where they need to fall in line. Stand strong as a building block of the Church in alignment with Christ and do not let the enemy break the bonds between you and other Believers.

The world needs to experience His LOVING Church!

Janice grew up in the Bay Area in a broken family. She met Christ in the 3rd grade at a neighborhood gathering for kids called a 5 Day Club. The woman who led the club took her to church where she was baptized and received her first bible. In later years, she encountered the ministry of Young Life where she deepened her faith and felt the call to love others with the love of Christ as she had been loved. She now serves at Powerhouse Ministries and claims it is the highlight of her week. Janice is married to her husband of 24 years and they have three children all now in college.
