Cultivating love

Main Truth: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:34-35

God’s love is unconditional. The word unconditional means no limits and no conditions. Through Bible studies, I discovered that God’s love is limitless and perfect.

How do we cultivate and grow love in our lives? How do we love the difficult people in our lives and even our enemies? It is impossible to do in our strength. It can only be done through the power of the Holy Spirit, God working through us. Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” - Luke 18:27

I failed many times to love those who have hurt me in the past. It is not an easy thing to do, but when we ask God to help us forgive and to love, He does! By asking God you allow His love to flow through you and you will be amazed at the results. You’ll be surprised at your reaction when it is done in the Spirit rather than our human nature, the flesh.

Here are a few of the things I do to help me cultivate the love that God has planted in me:

  • Stay close to God by reading His Word, the Bible. He will show you how to love like His Son, Jesus.

  • Surround yourself with other mature believers who love to spread His love around. It is contagious!

  • A simple smile and gesture of love can brighten someone’s day as well as yours.

  • Love without expectations.

  • Pray to become more loving and patient.

Let’s make a difference in a world where others cultivate hatred and where there is so much

division. Ask God to help you plant seeds of love. A gesture of love blesses others and honors our Heavenly Father. It will also be a blessing in your life.

“The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” Galatians 5:22-23.
