Welcome to the Cultivate Speaker Series! At the conference, we'll have a variety of workshops that offer tools to equip and empower your faith journey.   Speaker Series is an interview-style editorial about each speaker at Cultivate.

Let's meet Kristen Stevenson, learn more about her breakout session (Comparison, Vulnerability, and Perspective) and, how God has been working out this in her life.

Kristen's biggest passion is connecting to others through transparency and vulnerability, in hopes that her experiences can lead others to community. Comparison, Vulnerability, and Perspective will dive deeper into the struggles women face on a daily basis, provide hope of God's presence through establishing a community and making connections, and equip us with the courage to share our story with others going through tough times.

About Kristen

Tell us about you and your family.

I'm a wife, mom of two littles, and Director of Sales for the Holiday Inn Express in El Dorado Hills. I am also pursuing a side business called Color Street, which has been my focus the past 9 months and I love it! I have a passion for connecting with others, making new friends, and traveling with my family. I grew up in El Dorado Hills, attended college in San Diego, and moved back to the area 3 years ago with my family.

My family is crazy fun and busy! We have two kiddos, ages 4 and 3 who are only 16 months apart (intentionally-- what were we thinking?!). We also have a dog named Brody who was our first child. My family is my everything and when I'm not at work, I'm spending time with them and soaking up all of the memories.

Tell us about your faith journey.

I was born and raised in a Christian home and was always actively involved in church and youth group. When I attended college, I steered away from my faith for a bit, but by the time my Junior year came around, I had a vivid dream of Jesus speaking to me, which was a pivotal moment in my faith journey - a homecoming. Fast forward a few years later, I had the opportunity to work for a large church in San Diego. While I was on staff, I was exposed to circumstances that caused me to "burn out" from attending church.  Over the past few years, I have continued to rebuild my faith and have allowed myself grace for what I had experienced. One way that God has continued to present Himself in my marriage and life is His perfect timing, which continually reaffirms me that He is taking care of me and is leading me where He wants me to be.

When you were asked to speak at Cultivate, what was your first reaction? Why?

I was caught completely off guard, yet I said "yes" immediately. I was completely confused on why I was sought out for this opportunity (and I am still trying to figure out why).

When you heard what you would speak about, were you surprised by the topic that was asked of you? Why or why not?

When I was approached with the topic to speak about, I was not surprised at all.  I am an "over-sharer" and connect with others through sharing similar experiences.  It fits me perfectly!

Looking back up to this point, how has God worked out this topic in your own life?

God has lead me to be open about my experiences and struggles in motherhood, marriage, anxiety, money, and life! He has used the times I've been at my lowest and has shown me how to overcome these situations with Him as the center of the healing.

In what ways do you struggle with your topic?

I'm struggling with making sure my topic is relatable to women in all stages of life.

How has God worked in your life to overcome some of this?

He's given me the confidence in myself to talk about it and to not be worried about what other people will think about me by doing so. By sharing my experiences and being vulnerable, I have been able to not only cope with situations I've been in, but I've also been able to help others going through similar circumstances.

What do you want women who attend your breakout session to walk away with?

I want women to know that it's OK to not have it all together. To know that it's OK to be open about their struggles and experiences. To encourage women to give themselves grace when they're feeling like the failed or have fallen short.
