Chasing balance is like chasing the wind

Main Truth: “Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything.  Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.  His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

I would like to call B.S. on the concept of “finding balance”.  I’ve been struggling with this concept since my first born, who is now 11!  But lately, I’ve been really praying about it and pursuing God’s answer.  During a time of prayer, I felt God whispering, “seeking balance is like seeking the wind.  You’ll never achieve it by trying to achieve it. When you try to achieve balance you will find turmoil, when you seek Me, you will find peace.”

The buzz word or theme that has been humming in culture lately is the concept of trying to balance life, with Christians and non-Christians alike.  So I did a search for balance in my Bible app and guess what? I found that God mentions nothing about trying to find balance.  In fact, my search brought up more verses talking about God being the center of one’s life. See, He is the balance.  Mind blown!  Balance in itself can not be found, it is only found in the One who balances.

When you try to balance life, you are the center of the balance scale.  When you search for Jesus, He becomes the center. Why do we search for balance anyway?  For me, it’s because I want a sense of peace. So I’ve been putting the cart before the horse.  I’ve been searching for balance to find peace, but the peace is only found through Jesus.

During His earthly ministry, Jesus never implied Himself pursuing balance.  Completely in touch with humanity and all it’s emotions, Jesus did not rely on inner strength or inner peace. He constantly relied on the Holy Spirit to guide Him.  He constantly took time to spend with God. He constantly relied on God to lead Him, to equip Him and to empower Him. His strength and sense of peace came from the only one who can provide it - God.

If I say that I am a Christ follower, why am I chasing something Jesus never pursued? So instead of trying to find balance, I’m pursuing Jesus.

Like Jesus said, “...Spend your energy seek the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you...‘This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one He has sent.’” John 6:26-29 NLT
